A Woodstockerific Day!
Heat, humidity, and sunny skies greeted everyone at the season opening race at the 2016 edition of the Woodstock Triathlon and Duathlon.
As was the case in 2014, Lionel Sanders and Angela Quick came out on top once again.
David Mackie swam the opening 750m in 9:55, followed by Hector Rodriguez (10:22), and Alexander VanderLinden (10:30). Sanders, finished the swim in 11:02 and got down to business.
Sanders crushed the windy 20km bike course in 28:28 (42.1 km/hr – view Lionel’s power file), and exited T2 with a 1:37 lead over VanderLinden, and 2:40 over Mikael Staer Nathan.
With a course record in sight, Sanders ran the final 5km with the top time of the day (16:29) to take the overall victory in 57:15, trimming 18 seconds off of his own course record set in 2012. VanderLinden held on to second (1:00:10), with Staer Nathan finishing strong to grab third (1:00:32).

Lionel and Recharge With Milk Ambassador Athlete Prakash Pandya had a little extra on the line on Saturday. Prakash had to finish within 13% of Lionel’s finishing time or else he had to wear socks on his hands for the next 48 hours. See what happened:
Prak Having Fun with the bet
The Sprint Duathlon (5 km run, 20 km bike, 2.5 km run) featured a close battle between Larry Bradley and Garvin Moses. Bradley opened with an 18:35 run to stay ahead of Moses by 14 seconds, he rode 33:03 to gain another 13 seconds, and ran 9:34 to finish in 1:02:24, just 22 seconds in front of Moses.
“It was a battle out there today with the amazing competition, the wind and my current fitness,” said Bradley, the 2012 Woodstock Sprint Duathlon Champion. “I just kept my head down and powered on trying to stay out front. Definitely, wasn’t easy with everyone racing so well this early in the season.”
