Race Day Recap
Mother Nature treated us to a beautiful and sunny Saturday morning to kick off the 2015 Recharge With Milk Triathlon Series season at Canada’s Dairy Capital of Woodstock.
Compared to last year’s 16 degree Celsius water temperatures, triathletes enjoyed 20 degree waters out of the Pittock Reservoir, and things heated up throughout the day, both in ambient temperature and with the racing.
Woodstock Sprint Triathlon 2015
Guelph’s Jackson Laundry entered the race with a mission in mind, to take down the course record of Lionel Sanders.
Laundry started the day behind Kitchener’s Alex VanderLinden (10:12) with a 10:21 opening 750m swim. Once on the the windy 20km bike course, Laundry sped to the front of the race with a a 29:26 ride. With the record in sight, Laundry closed with a 5km run of 16:39 5km to finish in 57:37, just 4 seconds shy of Sanders’ course record.
Behind him, the excitement continued, with a final 1 km run battle to decide the next three spots. VanderLinden managed to outrun Richmond Hill’s Andrew Bolton for second, with Toronto’s Mikael Staer Nathan taking fourth.
