BINBROOK POST-RACE REPORT

The cozy setting of Binbrook Conservation Area set the stage for an incredible day of racing on Saturday June 7. Racers were treated to a cloudless sky, 70.5F/21C warm water temperatures, and hardly any wind during the flat and fast bike ride.
As with Woodstock, a speedy and talented field of athletes gathered for the Sprint Triathlon (750 m swim, 30 km bike, 7.5 km run), and the overall winner repeated his successful come from behind pattern yet again in the second race of the 2014 Recharge With Milk Triathlon Series.
Derek Quick (St. George) and David Dorian (Toronto) led the charge out of Lake Niapenco in 9:45 but Richmond Hill’s Andrew Bolton and Hamilton’s Lionel Sanders soon chased them down. Bolton rode the top split of the day (42:22 averaging 42.5 km/hr), while Sanders was just behind 42:53). With just over one minute to make up on Bolton, Sanders threw down the top run of the day (24:47 – 3:19/km pace) to overtake Bolton for his second victory (1:19:39) in a row at the Recharge With Milk Triathlon Series, while also defending the Binbrook title he won last year over Cody Beals. Bolton held on for second (1:20:21), and Toronto’s Sjaan Gerth spoiled a Recharge With Milk Triathlon Series Ambassador Team sweep of the top three by passing Mikael Staer Nathan in the final kilometre of the run to take third (1:23:40).
Check out Andrew Bolton’s Race Report.

Last year’s women’s champion, Kristen Marchant did race at Binbrook but competed in the Swim/Bike (which she won) due to a stress fracture which prevents her from running. Check out Kristen’s race report.
