Important Notes

Please note that this year there will only be ONE steamship doing 2 separate trips. 

Boat trip 1 will be leaving the dock at 8:00 AM sharp and all athletes in the waves 1-3 must be on this boat.

Boat trip 2 will be loading athletes around 8:55 AM. All athletes in waves 4-5 must be at the dock by 8:50AM.

Course Details

Swim – 750m

Average water temperature has been 76 degrees for the past several years.

To get to the dock you will leave transition out of the BIKE EXIT, walking towards the water (Boston Pizza). Once you are across the road you will turn right and walk along the wharf edge to the Muskoka Steamships.

The Sprint Triathlon Swim is a 750m swim that is a straight line from the swim start back to the Muskoka Wharf. We will be using the RMS Wenonah II to transport the swimmers to the swim course. Here is the protocol for the swim starts:

The steamships will anchor near the swim start point. The Start Point will be between two of our large (5.5ft) Lime Green Tetrahedrons (see course maps).

Athletes will exit the steamship (short 5 ft jump into the water) one or two at a time, swim to the start approximately 50m and gather at the Start Point. There will be a starter in a motorized Zodiac boat to marshal each wave. Each wave will start at the sound of the steamship whistle.

Once all athletes have left the ship in wave order. Each wave will swim up to the Start Point and wait for the marshal’s instructions and the steamship whistle to start.

Swimmers will start at the large (5.5ft) Lime Green Tetrahedrons and complete the 750m swim to shore. There will be smaller (3.5ft) Orange Buoys along this stretch to guide you along the course. Swimmers can swim on either side of the Orange buoys. There will be a Lime Green Tetrahedron at the swim exit.

Swimmers will then exit the water up a special set of stairs in single file and proceed up the docks towards the transition area.

Bike – 20km

The bike course is an out-and-back along the scenic Muskoka Rd 169.

Athletes are always required to stay to the right on the bike course but it is especially important that you do so on this particular course.

Run – 5km

The run course is out-and-back. You will exit the Transition Area at the back under the Run Exit sign (same way you entered from the swim) and run straight across a small footbridge.  The run follows the fitness path towards North Muldrew Lake Rd.

Once you make the left turn onto North Muldrew Lake Rd you will continue to run on the LEFT HAND (facing traffic) side of the road at ALL TIMES.  North Muldrew Lake Rd. is your typical Muskoka cottage road that has short rollers, steady grades and plenty of twists and turn. Crossing over to the opposite side of the road will be considered cutting the course and may result in a disqualification. The Turnaround is at 2.5km on North Muldrew Lake Rd.

After the turnaround you retrace the run course back to the race site staying on the LEFT HAND side of the road. You then cross the road at the controlled intersection and continue until turning right into the fitness path once again. The final stretch of grass takes you to the Finish Line.
