Very Important Toronto Island Update

As you may have heard in the news, high water levels across Lake Ontario have continued into the summer and have had a profound effect on both Toronto Island as well as the Toronto Waterfront as a whole.  Several of the main roads on Toronto Island are still under more than a foot of water and flooding continues in many other low-lying areas of the Island.

The effects of this extraordinarily high water have had on Toronto Island are certainly beyond our control.  The MultiSport Canada team has been in continued contact with senior City of Toronto Parks Staff and we know that their team has been working tirelessly over the past number of months to mitigate the damage to the Island itself.

With the event just under four (4) weeks away, we wanted to provide you with both an update on the event as well as some options we have for registered participants.

Toronto Island Course Update

The Toronto Island event WILL be hosted as scheduled, but as a Swim-Run.  With the continued flooding on the roadways on Toronto Island, it is nearly impossible to have safe access to our cycling route.  Race Distances will remain the same in the Swim and the Run for both the Give-It-A-Tri and Sprint Triathlon.  More event details and additional options are listed below.

Participant Options

Option #1

Our hope is that you will remain in the event and have a great time on Toronto Island!  Come-out to Swim and Run with us.  You’ll experience the same great atmosphere and everything else you’ve come to expect from a MultiSport Canada Series Event.

The Swim-Run will be hosted from the Centre Island area.  The Swim will be a rectangular single-loop course running parallel to the shore with an in-water start.  The Transition will take-place adjacent to the Beach and the Run will be a multi-loop course (2 x 1.25km for the GIT and 3 x 1.66km for the Sprint) along the roadways and pathways West of Avenue of the Islands.

Option #2

Take a no cost transfer (the typical $10 to $20 fee will be waived) to any other MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series event of like distance.  To request a transfer please email us at TorontoIsland@multisportcanada.com indicating which event you would prefer.

Please note that K-Town is selling-out quickly, but we still have plenty of room in Bracebridge and Lakeside.  If you would like to transfer to Wasaga Beach, please also do so quickly as we are projected to reach capacity there as well.

Please note that this transfer option will be available ONLY until Tuesday Aug 6th at 11:59PM

After the transfer window closes on Tuesday Aug 6th at 11:59PM, we will make the following changes to your entry:

  • Sprint Triathlon and Give-It-A-Tri will be moved into their respective Swim-Run events.
  • Sprint Duathlon will be moved into a Run Only 5km event or will have option to switch into the Swim-Run
  • Sprint Duathlon Relay will be moved in a Double Run (2 x 5km) Relay or will have the option to switch to the Swim-Run Relay
  • Give-It-A-Tri or Sprint Swim-Bike will be moved into the Swim-Run

Option #3

Take a no cost deferral of your entry to any MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series event in 2020; including Toronto Island. To request a deferral to 2020, please email us at TorontoIsland@multisportcanada.com

Please note that this deferral option will be available ONLY until Tuesday Aug 6th at 11:59PM

After the deferral window closes on Tuesday Aug 6th at 11:59PM, we will make same changes to your entry as listed above.
