Join Ignition Fitness on Friday, May 30th – Sunday, June 1st for their triathlon training camp in beautiful Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
This camp is perfect for any athlete of any ability that is either training for an Ironman or 70.3 event in Tremblant, or anyone training for any other ironman-distance or 70.3-distance event. Our coaches will be on site and will be there to swim, bike and run by your side. They’ll be there to offer you one-on-one tips, advice, support and instruction throughout the weekend. We’ll also be spending a couple of hours on both Friday and Saturday evenings discussing long course-specific and Tremblant-specific racing and nutritional strategies. Included in the camp fee is dinner on Saturday night and a souvenir tshirt!

So I am going against the grain here with this post since these days it takes no effort at all to find someone touting the benefits of using some sort of gadget to make your training better. Power meters seem to be all the rage these days- I couldn’t count the number of times I have heard someone say “I/you NEED a power meter!” Now, if anyone looks at my race wheels this year, they will see that I have a power meter- but it doesn’t work. It simply came with the race wheels I got second-hand, the battery lasted about 5 rides, and when it died I a) didn’t care very much and b) discovered that not many people (none that I found- although I didn’t look very hard) carry the tool that would be required to take the cap off and put in a new battery. So I am leaving the power tap there just to make myself look super cool.
I also don’t train with a HR monitor (once in a blue moon I’ll wear it just to see what it is- but I never look at it until after I finish the workout). I will wear a GPS in the summer when I ride my bike on a new route, but again, that is just out of curiosity to see how far I have ridden, not really used for training purposes. Read more

There are only two seasons in Canada: Winter and July. With a ton of snow this winter and what seems like an endless cold spell (must be that polar vortex thing), winter seems like it will never end. Now don’t get the idea that I’m complaining (although it is quite understandable that most triathletes dislike winter)…this winter thing is really starting to grow on me.

Once again and for legal reasons, Multisport Canada will now have to change the name of the Welland Long Course Triathlon. We will need a name to describe the Welland race that does not include the word “iron” or the term “70.3”.
Taking place on June 15, 2014, the Welland Triathlon consists of a 2K Swim, a 90K Bike and a 21.1K run. The swim is in the clean and clear waters of the Welland Recreational Waterway, the scenic bike course winds its way through the beautiful Niagara Region, and the run course travels on fitness trails along the Welland Recreational Waterway.
As we did with the Niagara Falls Barrelman, rather than coming up with the name ourselves, we have decided to take the opportunity to launch a contest to name the race.
We will be giving away a free entry to the race to the person who submits the name chosen by our selection committee. The contest will be open until noon on March 28, 2014. The winning name will be announced on Monday March 31, 2014.
Please submit your race name suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
