I’m thrilled to be back for my second year as a MultiSport Canada ambassador and my 11th year racing with the series.
While I can’t remember what exactly prompted me to try my first duathlon, what I do remember clearly was how it made me feel: welcomed, alive and proud of my accomplishment. That event was organized by MultiSport Canada on Toronto Island and I’ve been hooked on this race series ever since.
Over the years, I worked increasingly harder and harder at the sport, meeting like-minded people who are pursuing their passion. I’m now coached by the awesome people at X3 Training and MB Performance, both based in Toronto. I’m also a member of the Timex Factory Team, an international squad of multisport athletes. Over the past couple years, I’ve also been blessed to join Team Canada at the duathlon world championships, where I was completely humbled and in awe of the talent out there!
While I am now fairly competitive as an athlete, I never forget where this journey began. I didn’t grow up athletic – far from it – and I can relate to those who are finding their way in this sport. (Honestly, that process never stops for me as I’m always discovering something new – or something I had forgotten!)
I believe that those of us who have the ability to give back to our community – perhaps because we have the time, resources, good health or other blessings – should do so. Being ambassador is one way that I can give back to duathlon and triathlon and pay forward the good things that have come to me through this sport.
I will be racing Gravenhurst, K-Town and Toronto Island this season and I hope to meet many of you there. But in the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out to share your thoughts about duathlon and if I can answer any questions you have about this great sport and race series!
